Saint Hilda of Whitby, one of our patrons.
Welcome! Welcome to the cyber-home of the Mission Society of Saint Wilfrid and Saint Hilda in the North West of England. This site currently represents the Churches of the Diocese of Blackburn and the Diocese of Carlisle wherein you will find a welcome.

We are committed members of the Church of England who believe in the Faith professed by our Church as it was handed to us by the Saints and in line with the vast majority of Christians throughout the globe, we hold fast to Apostolic Succession, the catholic creeds and the eternal word of God. We seek to be truly missionary in delivering this faith, once again, to our country. We are led by Bishops of the Church of England and we offer you our good wishes, our prayers and our time through this site which seeks to explore that faith and to answer your questions.

He works with the Bishop of Lancaster in Blackburn Diocese as one of the two suffragan Bishops and his additional responsibilities lie in the formation and governance of the religious life and in peace and justice issues particularly based in the inner city areas of East Lancashire. He is also the provincial episcopal visitor to the Diocese of Carlisle where he enjoys excellent relations with the Episcopacy. He is the first point of contact for traditionalists in Blackburn or Carlisle Dioceses.

The Right Revd. Martyn Jarrett is the Co-ordinating Bishop of the Society of Saint Wilfrid and Saint Hilda. He is the Bishop of Beverley, one of the three Provincial Episcopal Visitors who cater for traditionalists under the 'Act of Synod'. He is responsible for delivering the message of the Society and for its day to day management. Bishop Martyn is more familiar to those in Manchester and Liverpool Dioceses than to Blackburn and Carlisle as he is also a suffragan of those two Sees and has direct contact with the traditionalists in those places.
